Welcome to the Hong Kong Branch of the

Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IMMM)

We are the Hong Kong Branch of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining

The former Institution of Mining and Metallurgy (IMM) was founded in 1892 and was a professional and learned society for engineers engaged in the minerals industry. The IMM has branches in the UK, Ireland, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Southern Africa, Malaysia, Australia and Western Canada.

The IMM merged with the Institute of Materials to form the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IMMM). The new institute was officially recognised by the UK's Privy Council on 26 June 2002.

Hong Kong Branch members are predominantly involved in geotechnical and civil engineering works and comprise engineering geologists, geotechnical engineers, tunnelling engineers, materials engineers, geologists and materials scientists. Mining used to be an active industry in Hong Kong but ceased in the 1970s.
