We are the Hong Kong
Branch of the Institute of Materials, Minerals
and Mining (IMMM). The Branch was formed in December 1984 and is a
registered society under the Laws of Hong Kong. The membership of the Branch
increased steadily in the 1980s and 1990s, and now exceeds 150. Branch
Members are drawn from a wide range of disciplines, including geology,
engineering geology, geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, mining
engineering, materials engineering, tunnelling and materials science. The Branch organises a wide variety of learned
society meetings which qualify as Continuing Professional Development. Evening
technical meetings on a broad range of subjects are generally held at the
Mariners Club in Tsim Sha Tsui, The Hong Kong Branch has organised or co-organised
five international conferences, namely 'Rock Excavation in an Urban
Environment' in 1986, 'Rock Cavern - On behalf of the Institute, members of the Branch
conduct local interviews for Corporate Membership of IMMM and for
registration as Chartered Engineer with the UK
