Alberto Dias, President

Alberto is currently employed as a Principal Engineering Geomorphologist with Maunsell Geotechnical Services Ltd. He has been working for MGSL since 2000 and prior to that worked for Halcrow Asia Partnership as well as having been seconded to the Planning Division of the GEO for several years. He has been based in Hong Kong since 1994 and has been involved with numerous landslide investigations and other natural terrain related projects.


Guy Bridges, Honorary Secretary

Guy is an Associate of Maunsell Geotechnical Services Ltd.  He graduated as a mining geologist, and has spent the last 18 years in the tunnelling industry in the UK and Hong Kong. Ever since a summer placement where Guy was employed as a miner in a Cornish tin mine, he has been involved in projects utilising blasting for excavation of tunnels and site formations.  Since arriving in Hong Kong, Guy has gained first hand experience of tunnel and surface blasting, and is able to share some experience gained from recent projects including the Jordan Valley site formation, and Ocean Park site formation and tunnels.

 

Clive Franks, Honorary Treasurer

Clive previously served as IMM HK Branch Treasurer, Secretary and President and has been actively involved on the Branch Committee since the early 1990's. He works for GEO and is currently involved in squatter clearance studies with previous involvement in natural terrain hazard studies, engineering geology mapping and area studies and a review of disused tunnels in Hong Kong. Clive is a Chartered Engineer and Chartered Geologist as well as Fellow of the IMMM, Member of HKIE and RPE(G) and IPENZ. Clive first graduated in Mining Engineering with a subsequent MSc in Rock Mechanics and then PhD in Geotechnical Engineering. Clive has more than 28 years working experience primarily as an engineering geologist in the fields of consultancy, academia and government having worked in the Middle East, Europe and New Zealand before joining GEO. Clive has been a Professional Assessor for IMMM since 1995 and for the Geological Society of London since 1999.

 

Norman Woods, Council Member

Having experimented with extracting oxygen from roasted shale and mastered tea-making over a bunsen burner under the tutelage of Ken Early in the late 1960s, Norman moved on to become an itinerant jack of all trades, working as an engineering geologist, soils & materials engineer, grouting engineer and laboratory manager in New Zealand, Indonesia, Fiji, Malaysia, the UK, South Africa (briefly) and finally Hong Kong, where he is now employed by the Lands Department of the HKSAR Government. He has served several spells as Chairman and Secretary of the Hong Kong Branch.

 

Herman Tso

Herman has been working in geotechnical engineering department in W & C Consulting Engineers Ltd. for over 3 years since I was graduated form Lakehead University of Canada. I am please to gain the chance to serve the Institute as committee member last year.  I would like to continuing serve the IOM3 for the coming year.

 

YC Lam, Council Member

Mr. Lam is a Senior Geotechnical Engineer with Maunsell. He had been serving on the committee from 2002 to 2005 and has been the webmaster since 2002. He involved in some local tunneling projects like HATS, Rehabilitation of Anderson Road Quarry, Tai Lam Section of KCRC West Rail, Pak Shing Kok Tunnel of MTRC Tseung Kwan O Extension and CLP Cable Tunnels. He is currently working on some WSD & DSD projects. In 2001, Mr. Lam worked in the United States on the Blackhawk Tunnel project.

 

Keith Roberts, Council Member

Keith works for the Civil Engineering and Development Department of the HKSAR Government.  He is predominantly involved in the auditing of private and public geotechnical works falling within the Mainland East Division of GEO.  He has previously undertaken engineering geology and advisory studies related to underground cavern development, tunnel works, borrow area assessments and natural terrain assessments in Hong Kong.  Keith is a Chartered Engineer as well as a Member of the IMMM, Member of HKIE and RPE(G).  Keith first graduated in Mining Geology and later obtained an MSc in Engineering Geology.  He worked in the South African gold mining industry in the fields of mining geology and rock mechanics and on the Channel Tunnel Project as an engineering geologist before moving to GEO.

 

Alexander Mackay, Council Member

Sandy is a Chartered Engineer and Geologist currently employed by Hyder Consulting Ltd as a Principal Geotechnical Engineer. During his 20 year career he has practiced in the UK, HK, Russian Federation, Middle East, Vietnam and Spain and presently overseeing tunnel construction projects in HK on behalf of Hyder. Sandy commenced his career in Geotechnics as a drilling technician and following graduation was employed by both contractors and consultants on many large scale construction projects. He is enthusiastic to promote the role of Engineering Geology within the construction industry and generally promote the role of Engineers within society, hence serving as an IMMM Committee Member on and off for the last four years.

 

Malcolm Lorimer, Council Member

Malcolm is a Principal Engineer for Jacobs China Limited. He is experienced in both geotechnical engineering and engineering geological work. In addition to working in Hong Kong since 1992 he has undertaken projects in UK, Singapore, China, Macau and New Zealand. He is also a Chartered Geologist (Geological Society of London) and HKIE Member (Geotechnical).
