Professional Review
The Hong Kong Branch carries out Professional Review Interviews for both Corporate Membership of IoM3 and for Registration as a Chartered Engineer. More than 100 interviews have been conducted over the past 10 years. The interviewers are senior members of the Branch with expertise relevant to the field in which applicants are practising.
In June 2003, the Branch produced a statement on the Requirements for Registration as a Chartered Engineer. This outlines those aspects that Hong Kong interviewers will focus on when assessing a candidate for Registration as a Chartered Engineer.
Further details regarding registration with the Engineering Council (UK) can be viewed at the ECUK website, at http://www.engc.org.uk/registration.
During their visit to Hong Kong in July 2004, the former President of the IMMM, Jeff Smith, and the Deputy Chief Executive, Graham Woodrow, agreed an updated RRA with the HKIE. The document can be viewed here, together with a note explaining the background.
There are currently two IMMM-approved training schemes for engineering geologists in Hong Kong, one run by Gammon Skanska, the second by the Geotechnical Engineering Office of the Civil Engineering and Development Department. Both the GEO scheme and the Gammon scheme are available for viewing and downloading.
In order to help identify persons who are considered appropriately qualified for carrying out engineering geological work, the Branch has proposed a specification for an "Engineering Geologist", based on the common range of duties and requirements as they apply to Hong Kong.
